Android has been a boon for many of us. Never before it was possible to develop such a great platform for apps and games. Android comes with a lot of useful, fun and other tricks which will add to the taste of it. Let's see a few.

Quick date and time

If you want to see what date it is today, then instead of going to your homescreen and stuff, you can simply tap and hold the notifications bar. It will show you the date and time in an instant.

Easter Egg

Well, everything comes with secrets and every android device comes with an easter egg! Just go to the Settings Menu and click on About. Keep tapping continuously on the Android Version label. And watch for yourself! If you long tap the icon on the screen, something more will happen!

Set default applications

Sometimes, you might have a lot of apps for a specific task. For example, if you use a specific launcher but want to try a new one, then you might want to change the default laucher. To do this, simply go to Manage Applications in the settings menu and click on the app. You will see a button labeled as Clear Defaults. Just tap it and you are done!

Kill apps by long pressing the back key

In Android 4.0+ you have the option to kill any non responding app by log pressing the back key. I am using a custom rom. It may or may not be available in your stock rom. So, to enable this feature, just navigate to Developer Options. Then click on "Kill app back button"

Remove search history

You may remove search queries by simply long pressing a search item.

Are you frustrated with those ads popping up here and there on your android phone? If yes, you have come to the right place. Using a small program called Adfree Android, you can remove the ads. This app actually replaces the hosts file to add local hosts. This way, apps aren't displayed on your phone. So let's get started.

  1. First of all, download the app called Adfree android from the app market.
  2. Then open it and it will show you a screen where you have to select Boot Normally.
  3. After doing this, wait for a few secs and tap on Download and install hosts button.
  4. Then the phone will be rebooted.
  5. After rebooting, in-app ads and website ads won't be displayed.

You also have the option to add exceptions.

Well, android phone have been praised everywhere for their performance capabilities, but when it comes to battery life, some phones may suck at it. So, here are some steps which you can follow to make your Droid last more than a day*

Deactivate Wifi when not needed

Yes, wifi is a huge battery eater. If you are done downloading stuff or syncronising data, you should deactivate wifi. It will really save a lot of battery. You can also use 3rd Party apps like Tasker, to easily schedule when to turn off wifi. You may also install the power widget on your homescreen so that it is easier for you to Switch ON or OFF wifi.

Use Mobile Network when necessary

This time, I won't ask you to disable mobile network completely. Instead, it is better if you use only 2G internet. 3G consumes a lot of battery and incur data charges. But, if you use 2G data, your battery will be saved to a great extent. Go to Settings > Wireless and Networks > Mobile Networks . Tick the Use only 2G networks.

Disable GPS when not required

Yes, you guessed it right. GPS can suck up the battery juice quite fast. So, use it only when you require it.

Use wallpapers wisely

It's better not to use live wallpapers on your phone. It may reduce your battery life. Also, use dark still wallpapers on the background.

Reduce vibrations and sounds

Vibrations, haptic feedback, etc use a lot of battery. It's better to switch it off if you are used to touchscreens. Also, reduce sound levels if you want.

Use less widgets on homescreen

Using less network oriented widgets like facebook widget, news widgets, etc might reduce battery life since they constantly work in the background.

That's it. I have mentioned quite a few ways through which you can quite improve the battery life. Though, it may depent on your phone's make or model.

Well, you might be knowing what a black box is, don't you? Then try reading this article to know more about a blackbox. Well, actually, it is a tool used in airplanes to record every conversation of the pilot with the control centre. If a plane crashed down, investigators find this black box and retrieve every detail of the plane before crashing. Thus, it acts as a boon for finding out the fault in the plane.

Similarly, Windows 7 provides a secret tool called "Problem steps recorder". You can use this tool to record every mouse click and activities you do. If your system crashed, the mechanic can easily find the fault in the system. To get started, follow these steps:

Steps:

  1. Start the Run dialog by pressing the key combination Windows Key + R.
  2. Type in psr
    PSR screen

  3. Click on the Start record button.
  4. Click stop when you are done.
  5. It will ask you for a place to save the MHTML file packed in a zipped folder.
That's it. It will help you while dealing with tech support.
